West Bay 2/25
We ran around the first few hours looking for trout and I just couldnt find any. I assume someone was on them but it wasnt me. Since plan A fell thru it was time to resort to plan B and that worked out well. We landed 28 reds today and 1 flounder. We had 8 keepers but I dropped 1 overboard while measuring him. OOOOOPPPSSS!!! It was funny and we had a good chuckle about it. Fish were shallow in 2-3 ft of water using 1/8th oz jigs and plastics. It was an awesome way to end a relatively slow beginning. Juvy caught his first fish on artificials and that is the first pic. He did great today for never throwing arties before. The other guys did well also. Just a great day with some great guys!!

West Bay 2/21
Had some fun guys on the boat today that wanted to learn how to navigate & fish the lower Galveston Bay system. We hit several of the community spots for the first 2-3 hours with only a few dink trout to show for it. This high water has the trout scattered and on the shorelines and it will be a grind for everybody until that water level drops. Your best bet for trout is to be wading right now. After showing them around we decided to target the redfish I have been on this past week or 2 and it paid off. We did 1 long drift in the dense fog and our first 4 hook-ups were nice reds that we fought for a minute and then spit the hook on us. That was depressing because it was our first really good bites and we kept losing them. AArrgghh!! After that we decided we were going to tighten our drags and set the hook a little firmer. we then ran in to another school and started bringing reds in to the boat. We ended up with 3 slot reds and about 5 or 6 rat reds. Unfortuneately some other boats saw us hooking up and got in there and scattered our reds out. 3 or 4 boats drifting over a school of reds in 2.5 ft of water is not going to keep them around. So we did another drift or 2 with minimal results and decided to head back to the launch making a stop along the way for 1 more drift with another very small rat red. We called it a day after that.

West Bay 2/20
Grind grind grind. That is what we did all day long. Had some great guys on the boat today and we went everywhere the fish should be. Started out drifting open water and after 2 hours and 1 undersize trout we decided to hit the marsh since the tide was up. We landed 7 or 8 undersize reds with the largest being 19.99 inches. He was just too close to keep in case the game wardens were checking. But it was fun and got us catching a few. We then moved over to to a popular reef and did about 4 or 5 long drifts and caught at least 1 good fish on every drift. Wind was cranking this afternnon at 22-25 mph out of the east. Kevin was the champion and got bragging rights today since he put it on the guides and his buddies butt. He landed a 22 inch trout and a 26 inch red and that won him the title and bragging rights for the day. Good job kevin!! Lester came in a close 2nd place with his 18 inch flounder. We used every possible bait we had in the boat and it didnt seem to matter they just didnt feed well.

West Bay 2/16
Another tough day on the water. I had 2 gentlemen from Missouri that wanted to hit it hard today and it was a definite grind. The outgoing tide was not very good. We only caught 2 keepers and 4 to 5 undersize trout and twice as many bites. They just werent feeding well. The incoming tide was better. They started feeding and we caught another 7 keepers and no undersize trout. We were using Big nasty baits in plum and pumpkin seed on 1/8th oz jigs fishing 3-4 ft of water over heavy shell. They kept 3 of the bigger ones for dinner and we let the rest go. Definitely a nice day on the pond!!!

West Bay 2/13
We had a great time today EXCEPT after 3 hours of fishing we only had 1 fish in the boat. The fish had lockjaw today for the first time all winter. We launched about 9:30 ish and called it a day about 12:30. We just decided they werent going to bite today so we just set him up with another trip in a week or 2 and decided we had enough of practicing casting. water temp was 42 this morning and was 46 when we got off the water. There was very little wind if any today. Just a tough tough day. But everyone has them even me. There is always tomorow!

East Bay 2/7
Sunday I took my 2 best buddies out looking for some big trout. Bite was on for the first 45 minutes but died quickly after that. We had several 4 pound trout to hand when I landed a 7 pounder that won me the money and bragging rights for the day. Wind was humpin out of the east @ 15 -20 and water was like chocolate milk. The 4 pounders were landed on corkies while the big girl was landed on a plastic. (browns devil eye) Great day with my buddies!!

West Bay 2/6
Wow there were a lot of boats on the water today. But like usual the bite was very consistent. I had 1 client on the boat today and catching our limit was easy. Fish were fairly larger today than on last trips. We had 4 trout over 20 inches with our biggest at 23. It took my client a few bites to learn that the fish are hitting it very lightly and to set the hook at any type of tension. Once he got that down he started catching them just fine. Same as usual 1/8th oz jig and plum sand eel jr's.

West Bay 2/2
It was another excellent day on the water. My guys that I took Sunday had such a good time they had to go again today. Today we caught proabbaly twice as many as we did on Sunday. We ended up with 28 keeper trout, 2 flounder and 1 slot red. However we caught aprox 60-70 undersize trout and a dozen or more rat reds. Most of the rat reds we caught up in the marsh drifting 2 ft of water. The rest of our fish were caught in the open bay over scattered shell in 3.5 to 5 ft of water. Again we were using 1/8th oz jigs and cayenne gold sand eel jr's and gulps for the reds up in the marsh. Great day with some great guys!!

West Bay 1/31
Had some great guys on the boat today and we did fairly well. 2 of the guys had never fished artificials before and they did great for first timers. They brought their own rods today and 1 of my guys hooked up with his very first fish on arties. As he is fighting it to the boat his reels comes of his rod and drops to the floor so he struggled and struggled and ended up actually landing this fish by holding his rod in one hand and reeling the reel with one hand. It was an astonishing feat and we all laughed and laughed while his buddies cracked on him. It was also a nice fish at 20 inches. That broke the ice and we all starting hooking up and had a really fun day. Final tally was 28 keepers up to 21 inches and aprox 15 throwbacks. Fish were feeding well until about 2 pm and then it slacked off after that. Most fish were caught on 1/8th oz jigs and plum/chart & cayenne gold sand eel jrs fished over heavy shell in 3.5 to 4.5 ft of water. Water temp was 46 to 48 degrees and the wind was NNE @ 5-10.

West Bay 1/28
I had no idea it was going to be 20-30 mph sustained winds today but that is how nasty it was. I took a gentlemen out today by himself that wanted to learn different areas to fish since he is new to saltwater fishing. We found fish in a few areas but it was so windy it was very hard just to feel the bite. We ended up with 3 reds a dozen trout and 1 nice flatty. Most of the fish were caught on 1/8th oz jigs but the flatty was caught on a gulp under a popping cork. We used darker colors today because of teh nasty water. We kept a few fish for his dinner and let the rest swim away to be caught another day.

West Bay 1/26
I had a father and son on the boat today and we caught fish on every single drift. It was a slaughter on the dinks. I had another spot with some bigger fish located and we caught some chunks up to 21 inches until a few guys saw us and came in and messed up our area. We ended up with 15 keppers and 1 barely legal slot red. Today was a special day. Anytime a father son duo can get together and hammer fish all day it is defintely an extra special day. I didnt get new clients today I got new friends. What a great job I have!!!

Wind was ESE-SE@13-17 1/8 th oz jigs and it didnt matter what color you threw they were hungry. If you werent fishing heavy shell you werent catching fish. prefered depth was 3.5 to 4.5 ft

East Bay 1/18

Had a wading trip scheduled for that day and we definitely caught some nice fish.  It was an outgoing tide all day so that hurt us.  This time of year you really need to be fishing an incoming tide when wading. But we ended up with 15 trout up to 4 pounds and 4 nice reds. We were fishing thick gooey mud which made it tough for wading but that is where they were located at today.  Fish were caught on corkies and soft plastics.

West Bay 1/17

I had 1 of my good clients on teh boat by himself today and what a day it was.  We caught fish from our first drift to our last drift.  The fish were small on average but it was constant action. Big nasty baits in pumpkin seed/ charteuse on a 1/8th oz jig were the ticket that day. We played catch and releae all day long but probably caught at least 50 trout that day along with 3 reds and 1 flounder.  What a day it was!!!

Burnett Bay 1/16

I did a solo trip to that area to see if the fishing had picked up over there.  I worked very hard to find fish and after the 8th or 9th long drift I finally found em.  I ended up catching 6 trout 1 red and 1 flounder on 3 drifts over the same area. This bay is usually very good this time of year but it has been fair at best. hopefully it will pick up soon.

2010

West Bay 12/28 & 12/29

The bite finally turned on for Sunday and Monday. Took my mom (who loves to fish) on a scouting mission on Sunday and we did fairly well although the fish werent very big. Most of our fish were 15-18 inchers and we scraped out about 20 fish total in 3-7ft of water over mud. I bought some live shrimp for her but interestingly enough they would not take a live shrimp. So she caught her fish on gulps while I used assassins.

Monday I had a charter and we smoked em. I had 2 clients and 1 guy just couldnt get the hang of it very well so every time I hooked up I handed him my rod to pull the fish in. The other guy was a decent fishermen so he caught a lot of fish. We had our 2 man limit by 2pm and we just played catch and release the rest of the day. All fish were 17-22 and just solid chunks. We probably released another 20 or so trout after our limits and we also had 2 reds that were released. Most of our fish were caught on assassins and nortons in dark colors on 1/8th oz jigs over heavy shell in 4 ft of water. It was a great day on the water with some great guys!!

Burnett Bay 12/26

My mom came in town yesterday for Xmas and she loves to fish. So today we hit the upper bay system and it was slow. We fished for about 4 1/2 hours and could only muster up 2 reds and 1 flounder. December has just been tough.  Tight lines to all!

Clear Lake 12/21

Launched under the kemah bridge to fish close to home. Water was extremely low. Started out in front of seabrook shoreline and could only muster up 1 red. He was in close to the rocks and he hit a limetreuse assassin.  Got back in the kemah channel and started throwing gulps under the restaurants and hooked a red that broke me off. I was flipping way under the boardwalk and I should have known there was no way to horse a slot red from under there. But I only hooked 1 so after 45 minutes I gave up and went in to Clear lake. Finally at about 30 minutes before the sun went down I found a few decent fish. No 5 pound pigs just 3 nice fat 21 to 22 inch specks that hammered a pink catch 2000. The first 2 I got on back to back casts and the last 1 I picked up in the exact same spot on my second drift. Definitely a good way to end the day. All in all the fishing has been tough these last few weeks. I think these higher than average tides have really had the fish scattered out and moving around and hard to establish a pattern. Hopefully this next front will keep blowing the water out and we can get some low tides like we had today.

Lower Galveston Bay 12/13

Finally got the boat back from the shop a day or 2 ago and yesterday I launched at Fatboys around noon to do some scouting for todays trip. After about an hour, the fog got so thick that you couldnt see the end of your cast so I hightailed it in and gave up for the day. So today I hit west bay again with my clients. Fog wasnt as bad as yesterday since we had about 100 yards visibility today. I wasnt on any fish so we didnt spend much time in West bay. I hit a few spots and could only muster up 1 red and a couple of dink trout so we decided to go hit the channel for flatties and I am glad we did. Had 2 flounder that were between 5 and 6 pounds along with two 4 pounders. ALso had several normal size flounder. Never got on them good where they were just flying in the boat but we managed a few at each spot and grinded out a decent box. I think the run is going to be over in the next week and we were just catching the last migrants on their way out to spawn in the channel.

Trinity Bay 11/23

All I can say is that today was a tough bite. We made 2 good drifts where we caught some nice fish and whenever we would go back to drift over them we would catch nothing. We really didnt catch much but a bunch of dinks until about 3 ish and the we started putting fish in the boat. I had to run to a different area of the bay because yesterdays fish were not biting or they moved on. But we ended up with 8 keeper trout 1 slot red and 1 flatties to go home with for my guys today. Caught 3 other flounder but they spit the hook at the boat. Also had aprox 20 undersize trout and 2 rat reds. It was just a tough bite for me today. . TIGHT LINES TO ALL AND HAPPY T-DAY!!!

Trinity 11/22

Today was an awesome day with 2 incredibly nice gentlemen and good fishermen. Launched about 10:30ish and my first 3 areas to fish didnt have a fish in sight. Not even a small bite. But finally my 4th area payed off and we caught fish the rest of the day. We finished our 2 man limit on the very last drift and also had a nice slot red in the mix as the sun was about to set. Caught a lot of throwbacks also. It was a really interesting trip because these guys had some stories to tell about muskies, stripers and bluefish. They kept me laughing all day. We had a great day on the water. Days like today really make me appreciate being a guide and being able to spend quality time with quality people.

West Bay 11/19

I had 1 guy on Thursday that wanted to learn how to wadefish places without a boat. So I took him down to the Lower bay system and showed him several spots he could get in the water and wade. I showed him some of my honeyholes and exactly where the fish stage at in those coves. The only problem was that I couldnt get him to set the hook and reel down fast on the fish. We did have our limit (1 client = 10 fish)of trout but I caught almost all of them. However he did catch a nice slot red and a few fish under the birds we found. Conditions were horrible. ESE @ 20 or more.

Trinity Bay 11/15

All I can say is that it was really bad conditions. Winds was SSE @18-20 and water was muddy but the day before we caught some really nice fish and I had to take the chance to see if they were still there. I had 1 client on the boat and we did the same drift for 4 hours and we caught 16 keepers up to 3 pounds. (all released) No reds and we were fishing in 3-5 ft of water off of a shoreline. Had to use 3/8 oz jigs just to control the bait. I also tried a mirrolure and a silver spoon and caught 1 fish on each but they wanted a dark plastic more than anything.

Trinity Bay 11/14

I had a father son duo on the boat and they were both excellent fishermen with arties. We threw sand eels mostly in glo/chart. Birds were everywhere but way too many people fishing the birds to even consider fishing them. So we hit shorelines and reefs today and we caught fish everywhere we went. Never caught a keeper until about noonish and then the big girls turned on. Ended up with 11 keeper trout up to 4 1/2 pounds (25 inches) and 1 flatty. My clients loved it since they had bowed up rods all day long. We left em biting.

East Bay 11/7

I had a really nice couple on the boat today and the husband wanted his wife to catch fish with arties so we hit the birds. We chased birds for 4 to 5 hours and caught 70-80 fish or more underneath them and believe it or not we didnt catch 1 keeper from them. just a lot of action and they loved it. So about midday we decided to go look for some bigger fish. Hit several reefs and caught fish on every reef we stopped at. But again they were 14 -15 inchers with a ton of sand trout. After 2 hours of hitting reefs and another 20 undersize fish again I decided to go shallow to try to muster up some better fish. we did 2 drifts in 2-3 ft of water and had 6 nice specks up to 3 1/2 pounds and 1 huge sheepshead.  By that time it was time to head in and we called it a day. All in all it was a great day on the water with some really nice people.

Trinity Bay 11/4

Today was magical! We launched under the Kemah bridge about 1:15 and hit the fishing grounds. The fishing was slow because of lack of tidal movement the first hour or 2 but when that tide started pouring in it became incredible. It is hard to say how many we caught today. It was every cast from 3 till dark. I had one of my corporate clients and his client on board and they both said it was the best fishing day of their lives. Ended up taking home 2 limits of trout and we let the reds go.

Upper Galveston Bay 10/25

Talk about windy. It was SE @ 18-20 with gusts to 25. We were fishing in white caps and 1 foot rollers but we still managed a decent box. Fishing over mud in 5-7 ft of water with 3/8 oz jigs and limetreuse assasins. We didnt kill em but we managed to catch a few fish on each drift and grinded out a decent box. ( 10 trout, 2 reds and 1 flounder) Did an afternoon trip with one of my good clients and his wife and they had a blast. This was her first redfish ever and first time to catch fish on artificials!!! way to go Hope!!!

Upper Galveston Bay 10/18

It was defintely a tough bite today. Started out drifting in 6ft of water about 8:15 AM and we steadily caught fish until the bite died about 11:30ish. I had a husband wife duo on the boat today but the wife didnt fish much. She just watched us fish. Which is nice because I dont get to fish much with clients on board. We used sand eel jr's and gulps with 1/4 oz and 3/8 oz jigheads. We ended up with 2 reds (both were 21 inches) and 8 keeper trout with about 12-15 undersize trout released. We also caught a 35 pound big ugly. The bite wasnt great but it was steady. I think this high pressure had them a little boogered up. Wind was NE to E at 15.  Water temp was 72. When that wind shifts to the SE and lays down a bit it is going to be on like donkey kong!!! I do have my first weekend opening in awhile on Sunday November 1st if anyone wants to go hammer the birds or wade for solid trout!!

Upper Galveston Bay 10/17

What didnt we catch today? Sheepshead is about the only species we didnt catch. We caught 3 flatties ( 2 undersize ), 1 croaker, 1 hardhead, 4 gaffs, 3 slot drum and 1 big ugly, 8 keeper trout, 1 red, 10-15 sand trout, 10-15 undersize specks and a small gar. It was never on fire today but we just steadily caught fish today. The bite shut off about noon. Had some great guys on the boat that picked up artificials very well and did great throwing gulps and sand eel jr's on 1/4 and 3/8 oz jigs. Didnt move around much. We basically did the same drift all day long. Wind was humpin this morning and backed off as teh day went on. Absolutely a beautiful day. It was tough conditions with that bluebird sky and 15-20 mph winds but we did OK considering. Tight Lines to all!!!

East Bay 10/14

The shorelines just werent happening today. Started wading about 7:30ish  in the spot we caught those nice fish last week. My buddy got out of the boat quickly and waded off the shoreline to a nice shell hump that we fish off of. As I was still gettiing ready a red comes cruising down the shoreline in the grass with a nice wake and shrimp flying every where as he swims through them. I am anchored about 20 yds off the shoreline and I try to make a casts to him but it was just 2 ft out of my distance with the wind. So after the red passes I get out of the boat and watch him go down the shoreline. My very first cast just 5 ft away from the boat I hook a nice flatty. So I stick him in the boat for dinner tonight. I figured there has to be a few more flats around so I stay on that grassy shoreline casting for flats . The tide isnt moving and there are no slicks so I figure I should just play around with that shoreline until the trout start biting. About 5-10 minutes later here comes another red cruising up the shoreline. So I make my cast about 30 second before he arrives and as soon as his wake is on my cast I make one small hop and boom I am on. Beautiful blue tail and about a 21-22 inch red. In the meantime my buddy is just practicing casting over the shell. I am a patient man so I wait make a few more casts looking for flats and here comes another red. Same scenario. Cast it in his path and just wait till he gets close and 1 small twitch and boom another red. This all happens withing 15 minutes of stepping out of the boat and within 10 ft of the boat. No more flats or reds cruising so I hit the shell hump and catch another red about the same size as the other 2. Still no slicks and no tide movement. My buddy gets about 10 blowups but no takers and I have 1 other fish that spit the hook. we grind it out for another hour or so and leave without any more fish. Hit a couple of other spots on the shorelines and could only muster 3 more trout up to 3 pounds. I like scouting different areas since I need to keep up with whats going on in all the bay systems so we decide to go cruise the middle of the bay and look for slicks and birds. We found the birds. After catching dinks and a few keeps in the first 4 sets we finally found a set of birds under bruiser reds and we catch 4 reds from 22-34 inches. Along the way we caught another 9-10 keeper trout and about 25-30 undersize trout. After that we called it a day. So it could have been better but those reds saved the day!!!

Trinity Bay 10/12

This rain is killing me. I have had to cancel 3 trips in the last 2 weeks but today I didnt care about it. Rain or not we were going fishing. Left the dock at 8 am and the rain hit us hard in the midbay area but we worked our way out of it and did a few drifts with no bites. We finally got over to teh fishing grounds and it was awesome today. We had 10 or 11 keepers and 40 - 50 throwbacks plus 3 reds. the last red I dropped it hit the side of the boat and fell in the water. My guys didnt care though they were just lovin the reds. All fish were caught on a 1/4 oz jig and glo/chart norton sand eel jr. But color didnt matter. Whatever you threw out there they were biting it. It was an awesome day with some happy clients!! The next couple of weeks is going to be on fire. I still have some weekdays open if anyone wants to go wading for big fish or to just go catch 100 fish out of the boat.

East Bay 10/1

Had some guys call last night wanting to go wading this morning so we left the dock around 7 am. On our second spot we found some really nice fish. Had 2 trout that were about 25-26 inches that were released right off the bat. They only kept 4 or 5 trout that were 19 - 22 inches and 2 flounder with the big flo at 23 inches. We caught and released about 15 trout total. It wasnt a lot of fish but the quality of fish was outstanding. These guys were really good fishermen today and it was a really fun trip with some great guys. We could only get them to eat gulps. They just didnt want assassins in dark or light. Wind was SW @14-15 and the bite was done about 11:00 ish.

Wading season is here. I still have 1 or 2 weekend dates open for October and November is wide open. Time to get serious about grinding on the shorelines for pigs so give me a call!!

Galveston Bay 9/27

Another day of catching and not fishing. The birds werent working very well today like they did yesterday but the huge schools of fish were still in teh area. I had grandpa, dad and 6 year old Blake on the boat today. We probably caught 80 -90 trout today. Only a few keepers in them but my guys werent keeping fish today which is nice. The highlight of the day was little blake hooking up with a 26 inch redfish on 8 pound test and landing it within 5-8 minutes time. It was a struggle but it was awesome. his dad also caught a 22 inch spanish mack. Dad says he is getting Blakes first redfish copied and made in to a cast by a taxidermist. Needless to say grandpa and dad were extremely proud and extremely happy with their trip today. Great day on the water!!!!

Galveston Bay 9/26

Had 7 year old Ben and his dad on the boat today and we ruined Ben for life. He wont ever be happy with another fishing trip unless he is catching them every 3 minutes which is about what we did today. Fished the birds for 4-5 hours and only caught 12 -13 keepers out of them. But a 7 year old doesnt care!! all he wanted to do was haul em in. Every time me or his dad would hook up we would hand it to Ben to haul in. We kept count and the tally was 102 trout today and only 1 gafftop. Water temp was 74 and the wind was NE and pumping until about 10 am and then it slacked off to variable @ 5-6 mph the rest of the day. The Bull reds are thick at the jetties and the beach and the big trout are showing up in the shallows. I have openings all week until Thursday if anyone wants to go slay em. All kinds of options!!!! Fall is officially here and the fish are getting hungrier by the day

Galveston Bay 9/16
The kids I took on Monday and Tuesday had such a good time that they begged their dad to take them 1 more day. So we went again today and it was a repeat of yesterday. It was NW @ 15 this morning so we went up in the marsh again and caught almost every species in the bay except a sheepshead and gafftop. It was a busy day for me again with 2 kids hooking up on every cast. But they learned to cast on their own today so that made things a little easier. Around noon the wind laid down so we decided to run out to the jetties to try to catch a bull red for the dad but it never happened. We only saw 1 boat actually catch a red when we were out there so we didnt stay too long. By 2:30 we were back at the launch. When I drove thru the boat cut it didnt look like there was much tide so I knew the bulls werent feeding at that time. But they mangaed to catch a couple of bonnethead sharks and some species that i have never seen before.

Galveston Bay 9/14 & 15
SW @ 20 on Monday and Tuesday was W @ 18 almost all day. My client wanted to take his young kids bull red fishing which didnt work out because the dad was seasick as soon as we got out to the jetties. Didnt even get to anchor up before we had to go somewhere else. So I had to find some bull reds that were in a protected area. We hit 2 spots and caught 1 bull.  By the way his kids were 8 & 9 and they were laughing at him for being sick. The kids thought we were on a roller coaster ride out there and they were laughing and having a great time in the big swells that were in the channel.  Same client both mornings so we decided that the kids should have some fun today and we hit some back lakes and had a blast. We caught a bunch of bull croaks and a ton of undersize reds. We also slammed a nice 21 inch trout and a 20 inch flatty. Great day today! Non stop action all day. oh yeah I forgot about the slot red that broke off on the motor. Talk about dissapointed! the youngen fought that fish for 10 minutes. Struggling to get it to the boat and in a split second it ran to the back and broke off on the prop. He was not happy about the big one that got away!!!

Galveston Bay 9/13

What a day it was!!! Water temp was 79. yes sir I said 79. Fall is here and it felt like it today. Beautiful day!!! Wind was NE this morning then backed off to nothing by 10 am. Did a lot of moving around today hitting different spots because my spots that were holding fish before this rain event had dried up. The water temp or the freshwater must have put those fish on the move. But thats OK I had plan B and C ready and finally on plan C it all came together and we started catching some nice trout. Had a father son duo today and the son really put it on his dad by catching most of the fish today. Poor old dad just couldnt get it together or it just wasnt his day today. The tide quit moving around noon so we headed back to the launch with 14 trout up to 21 inches and only 4 or 5 throwbacks. Caught nothing but specks today. It was a fantastic day to be on the water!!

Galveston Bay 9/5

I knew it was going to be a good day when I threw out a popping cork to teach my clients the technique of popping it and it starts rippin drag. it was a really good bite at first light and it lasted until noon. They werent feeding hard after 9 AM like they were early but it was constant action all day. Wind was NNE@12-15 No big fish today just easy limits plus on 16-19 inch specks. The bite isnt quite right yet because those fish are beginning to change their patterns but in the next few weeks it is going to get really good. Starting up my wade fishing trips soon. It is time to get back in the water looking for big girls. Thank god fall is finally here and it is going to be a great fall fishing season.

Galveston Bay 9/4

It was a great day today despite the NW @ 20 mph winds that were ripping across the bay at daylight. Started out this morning hiding from the wind in protected back lakes. Found the big uglies fairly easily. They were 20 -30 pounds and the boys loved em. We caught 5 total. The wind died to tolerable levels (14-15) about 9:30 am so we decided to go look for trout. Started catching trout on the very first cast and we had 12 keepers in the boat in less than an hour. The only problem was that after catching those 25 pound drum the boys thought the 2 pound specks we were catching were too small and not as much fun. The wind was blowing about 15 steady with no let up in sight so we called it a day about 11:30 with some proud fathers and happy kids. The specks were caught under a cork and the big drum were caught on carolina rig both with live shrimp.

Galveston Bay 8/30

Hit it today with a husband and wife duo.Winds were NW most of the day and steady at 12 plus. The trout bite was off for the last few days so we decided to go chase reds and see if we could come up with a few. Hit some shallow shorelines with grass and caught 2 nice reds right off the bat on live shrimp under a cork. Couldnt manage much after that. I am sure we ran the others off in the chaos of landing a double and pics and such. The fish dont tend to stay around long in noise like that in 2 ft of water. Moved around and picked up another red and a black drum in a deep hole freelining shrimp. That was about it except for the constant catfish and sand trout that were eating our shrimp. The fish are definitely switching over. I have seen a lot of shrimp in the bays this week running for their lives. Looks like October is going to be an excellent month.

Galveston Bay 8/29

That standing high tide in Trinity didnt help the trout bite this morning. Ended up with 4 keepers after several locations but we finally found some birds with a ton of trout underneath about noon and that saved the day for sure. Not many keepers but throwing topwaters and catching trout for a solid hour sure made up for the slow morning. Beautiful day on the water. Fall is coming fast.

Galveston Bay 8/28

I had a nice family with 2 young boys on the boat today.( Hudson and Austin ) And they caught a variety of fish today including speckled trout, sand trout, black drum, whiting, croaker, gafftop, and ladyfish. I wont mention the hardheads!!lol
Started at 7 am in the birds with the wind blowing 15 from the WNW it was easy to catch a few gaffers and some bay tarpon. That lasted an hour and we decided to go sit on a few wells and try our luck. The star of the day was the mom who had never thrown artificials before and picked it up like a champ. I handed her a 1/4 oz bass assasin and she caught about 7 trout after 5 minutes of instruction. It took her 3 or 4 missed fished before she figured out to set the hook and reel very fast but she got the hang of it. Most were undersize but she definitely liked not catching any on shrimp since Her husband only caught 1 on artificials and switched to bait early while she continued to catch a few more on arties. It was nice to see a wife outfish her husband especially since she never picked up a rod while fishing the birds. Storms ran us off the water about 12:30 with the wind still WNW at 13 to 14.

Trinity Bay 8/21

I had a nice family of 3 on board today with the star of the show little 8 year old Rachel. It was her first fishing trip today and she had a blast. We fished under the birds for several hours and she caught all kinds of fish today. Didnt catch many keeper trout today but that wasnt important. Catching a fish on almost every cast and watching the dolphins kept her happy for 5 hours. We could only find a few oversize trout today under the birds. But the amount of young fish present was impressive and tells me we have a lot of healthy young fish in the bays.

Galveston Bay 8/15

Hit my redfish spot early and caught 2 slot reds right off the bat and had a few break offs. About 20 minutes later we didnt get any more to the boat so we decided to look for some trout. Unfortunately my trout honey hole had someone on it already so we hit a few wells and picked up a few here and there. Went over to the reefs in East Bay and caught a few small trout on our first stop and then our second stop we found a good school of trout but it seemed like they only wanted shrimp. We made a few drifts caught some decent trout up to 24 inches and they wanted to call it a day about 11:45. It was really nice today compared to the last 2 months. I think the humidity was really low because it wasnt hot at all compared to what it has been. Is this the beginning of fall???? I hope so because I am sick of working in a frying pan everyday.

Galveston Bay 8/14

Didnt have a trip the last 3-4 days so I figured I would do some scouting before my trips this weekend. T storms were everywhere at first light so we ended up running East just to avoid them. Unfortuneately it was a NE wind this morning and it had East bay messed up so we we chased around some birds before heading back to the middle of teh bay over deeper water and shell. Moved around to several spots and picked up a few trout here and there and then finally around 11 am I found some nice trout. We hammered out a 6 or 7 trout up to 22 inches before heading it at noon.

Galveston Bay 8/9

Not much to say except the rain and wind ran us off the water around 9 AM. It was solid 2 footers with a few 3 footers out in the bay this morning not to mention the rain that pounded on us. We caught 1 red and decided to reschedule for next Saturday because of teh terrible conditions. We did catch this 1 nice red before calling it a day.

Galveston Bay 8/8

My reports must be getting boring. It is the same old thing for the last few weeks. Reds reds and more reds! The shark only showed up once to grab our bait and ran for the gulf. After about 100 yards I had to break the line so he didnt spool us and that spool was very hot from him ripping line out. After that he never showed up. I brought the shark rod out today to catch him but he never showed up except that one time. It was on fire at daylight but it didnt last long. By 8 AM they were done. We caught 2 slots today which is unusual for this spot. My guys had a blast since they have only fished the bays once or twice before. We didnt catch anything after about 8:30 when we caught the last red. we broke 6 off today and got 8 to the boat including this 47 inch pig which took quite awhile to land on 10 lb braid. Conditions were tough SE wind at 15 knots almost all day long.

Galveston Bay 8/7

The bite has been tough all week and today was no different. Today was actually slower than the past few days but we still caught 10 oversize reds and lost several again to break offs and the same shark that has been tearing up our reds for the past 2 weeks. Tomorow I am bringing a shark rod and I am going to catch him to see if he will leave after we pull him him to the boat and give him a shock. Everybody caught their first ever redfish today which is always a special day. Last bite was about 9:30 ish after that it was dead.

Take a kid fishing!!!!!!!!!!

Galveston Bay 8/5

Reds reds and more reds. But I am not complaining. Trout just arent that fun after catching reds that pull like freight trains. Again the bite didnt last past 9 AM. We hit my red fish spot this morning and it wasnt too shabby with about 10 reds to the boat and several other break offs. We had a few doubles also. After the bite shut off we went to East bay and it was tough. On our way out there we found a group of birds with more bull reds underneath them and we caught a few more giant reds on topwaters. NOW THAT WAS AWeSOME!!!! After that we found 1 good area where we caught about 10 trout but lost 4 of them trying to flip them in the boat bass style. We left fish to find fish and that is against the rules of fishing and a NO-NO and hence we never caught any more trout. Overall it was a good day.

Galveston Bay 8/4

A full moon is tough to fish because of teh bite being early , mid day and late. My clients were a little late so we only caught redfish for about an hour this morning. We hooked up with about 8-10 big brutes but only landed a few due to shark attacks and breaking us off in the structure. The kids (and adults) I had on the boat just loved it though!!! After that we went looking for trout and only could muster about 6 nice trout from 9 till 10 pm. After that the bite just shut off. We were hoping for a noon bite but it never happened and the wind picked up to 15 plus and that ended our day. All in all it was a good day on the water!!

East Bay 8/1

I knew it was going to be another bad day when I woke up and saw the wind was cranking at 20 plus. My clients were going back to Maryland tomorow so they wanted to go no matter what. So we went to East Bay to Drift some shorelines and see if we could muster out a box. I read Mullet's report from yesterday so I knew that if he and hop and the boys werent catching anything then the fish just werent biting. (Mullet puts out the best reports on 2cool so some of the beginners wanting to learn on this site should carefully read his reports and mine of course!!) I told my guys that up front so they understood it was going to be a day to practice casting and see what our Texas bays are all about. We actually found a pod of fish on the South shoreline and we caught 2 decent specks on our first drift. As we were coming back around to do another drift some guys come burning 30 yards off the shoreline in 2 ft of water right thru the fish and needless to say we didnt catch anything after that. East Bay was basically a mudhole. I think if my clients were waders we could have stayed on that school and did OK today or if we were allowed to drift a few times over them but instead we were BURNED!!!!!! Wind was SW all day today and it was 20-22 this morning and increased to 25 plus about noonish. Todays tally was 2 specks and a lot of catfish! Tough day!!!

Galveston Bay 7/25

Today started out on fire again but the bite fizzled out after about an hour and then the rest of the day only produced 2 fish. I thought it was going to be another awesome day but that bite just totally shut off. Not sure why but that is why they call it fishing and not catching. Hope someone else did better than us and styed on them all day but i am guessing the bite turned off everywhere today since the couple of guys I talked to at Eagle point said the same thing.

Galveston Bay 7/24

Another slaughterfest on the reds. What a great day we had. And it is really nice to enjoy it with some really great guys that I had on the boat today. We started out throwing tops and caught just a few trout before we decided that the young one was getting bored and we had to get him on some fish. Went out to my redfish spot and we caught redfish for 4 hours straight with lots of doubles and even a few triples. Again they were all huge fish the smallest being 26 inches. The first pic below is this young mans first ever redfish and he was extremely proud and so was his dad. He landed 7 to 8 bull reds all on his own today and he says he is going to be the redfish cup champion one day. All I can say is that today was a fabulous day.

Galveston Bay 7/23

Another day of redfish galore!! Only caught a few trout today but the redfish bite was awesome again today. Only a few in the slot and the rest being oversized. I had the head honcho for the texas game wardens from the N Texas area on the boat today and it sure is nice getting a couple of brownie points with him. I had some really nice gentlemen on the boat today and it was a beautiful day on the water.

Take a kid fishing!!

Galveston Bay  7/22

Today started out extremely slow!!!! Only had 1 trout and a stingray to the boat by noon. But the wind finally died and the greenwater pushed in and my redfish spot finally turned on and it was controlled chaos for about 2 hours. We caught a lot of reds today. Thankfully the kids hung in there until the conditions changed and the bite turned on. Only lost 4 or 5 today and I am not sure how many we caught. We had doubles going almnost constantly for the duration of the bite. Only 1 red was undersize and most were just over 28 all the way up to the 1 big bull red in teh pic below.

Galveston Bay 7/20

Tide wasnt moving very well this morning but we did OK anyway. First stop we caught a gafftop and a hardhead so we didnt stay there long. 2nd stop it was on. Started out catching trout then the bull reds moved in. Those big reds were tough to land on 10 pound test but the kids I had on teh boat today did awesome. We lost a lot of tackle today with those reds running us back in to the structure, cutting us off on shell and just plain overpowering the trout rods and breaking us off. The boys loved every minute of it. We probably lost about 10 reds today but the fight is part of the excitement. The important thing is that those kids had the time of their lives. Thunderstorms ran us off the bay about noon and they were definitely dissapointed because they couldnt get enough. What a great day!!!

Gulf 7/19

Tough day on the pond again. Still couldnt find the tarpon today in Tarpon Alley. Couldnt even find the bait out there today because of the conditions most likely. The bait stayed down today and we never saw any bait at all on top. Saw several boats out there and nobody had a clue of where the tarpon were. Conditions were much tougher today than yesterday. Yesterday was ice cream and today was rougher with 2 to 2.5 footers and lots of rollers out there. We did catch a king and we hit one of the closer rigs and my buddy hooked something really big that took him back in the rig and cut him off. Back to the bay tomorow lots of bay trips scheduled for this week. See you on the water!!!

Gulf 7/18

My clients canceled last night on me so I thought i was sleeping in today until I woke up at 6 am and saw the winds were light and wnw. So I decided to grab my tarpon rods and head to the beachfront to look for tarpon for my first time this year. Hit tarpon alley around 10 Am and stayed there until about 1 pm. never saw any tarpon but I did manage to catch a few kings and a few small ling. Had a big ling and a small ling come cruise by the boat together. I made a cast to them and of course the little ling picked it up. Came back to the jetties and did a few drifts to target shark and caught 3 good size sharks aprox 3.5-4.5 ft long. It was a good day to get out and find some bait and get some patterns going. Hopefully tomorow I can locate some tarpon!!
Galveston Bay 7/15

Fished today with my buddy and his dad and we started out throwing croakers and caught a few really big redfish.  Moved around the wells and found 5 or 6 keeper trout.  Not much going on after that.  We threw plastics out in deep water and caught a few sandies and 1 or 2 nice trout.  Tough bite today with a SW wind at 16-18 all morning.  We came in about noon and it was 18-20 SSW by then.

 Galveston Bay 7/11 & 12

Fished Saturday and Sunday with my buddies. All catch and release all arties.

Saturday started out throwing plastics in 7-9 ft of water and caught a lot of fish. At least 10-15 good trout. A lot of sandies and a lot of smaller trout also. Cruised around for an hour looking for some better fish and found them in 7 ft of water over shell. Scratched out 8 or 9 more keepers. It was hot as can be but when the fish are still biting it is hard to go in. On the way in we hit some deep water spots along the channel and caught a couple of toads (3 pounders).

Sunday morning we started at the same spot and the bite was off. So we moved around and found some birds. We threw tops at the birds and we caught a lot of nice trout. I was impressed with the set of birds we were on today. Both days were the same as far catching small ones in the morning and catching the bigger fish under the heat at midday with very little tide movement. Drifting in deep water this afternoon we had a couple of solid 4 pounders and 1 6 pound trout. Slow morning but a fun day over all. AND HOT!!!!!

conditions saturday- morning very light SW wind, afternoon was dead calm
Sunday- West wind at 8-9 in the morning then dead calm in the afternoon

Galveston Bay 7/10

We had an exciting day today even though the morning bite didnt happen for us. My guys scratched out 9 keeper trout up to 23 inches on 3/8 oz jigs by noon. We chased birds from noon until 4;30 and it was a blast since the guys were throwing arties today and were good fishermen crossing over from freshwater. They Loved the constant action and variety of species. It was a great day on the water with some really cool guys!!

Lower Galveston Bay 7/2

Did an afternoon trip and it was not too bad except that SSE 14-15 knot wind. The wind kept the water green and we grinded out a decent box on live shrimp freelined and on the bottom. Ended up with only 6 keeper specks and 1 nice upper slot red. The young man we had on the boat today was an excellent fishermen and he threw artificials on his own but didnt hook up. Next time I am putting him and his dad on arties. We caught a lot of stuff today like ladyfish and a nice sheepshead which was released.

Lower Galveston Bay 6/28

Finally got a day off where I could go fishing with my buddies and try some new areas and scout a little. I am glad I did because we definitely found em today. started off throwing tops this morning and caught 5 or 6 trout. Nothing big but lots of blowups with few takers. Then we headed toward some deeper areas where we anchored up and caught 25-30 trout on bass assassins and 3/8 oz jigheads. The bite died around 10:30 so we ended up finding some birds and caught black tip sharks, ladyfish and trout on tops for about 2 hours. That was a blast!!!! Wind was WNW about 5-10

Lower Galveston Bay 6/27

Another tough day ! Only caught a few good ones today and had a few break offs also. Wind was West to SW all morning about 10-14 mph. Water was nice on the western shorelines but the fish dont like a southwest wind. We definitely found some fish this morning and they were biting but the bite didnt last long. Tight lines to all!

Lower Galveston Bay 6/26

Tough day! That W-SW wind gave them lockjaw today. East bay was a mudhole this morning with water clarity about 2 inches at best. Slicks were all over teh reefs but couldnt muster but 1 trout and 1 gaffer all morning. At 10 Am I told my guys that we were just practicing casting today and gave them a free trip so we rescheduled for another date.  We didnt catch many yesterday and we caught even less today. We need to get some Easterly components back in our winds for the fishing to take off again.  Tight lines to all!!

Lower Galveston Bay 6/25

Today was fair at best.  The bite was over by 11am. We caught 30 - 40 undersize trout and sandies with a few keepers mixed in. Headed over to East bay abot 10:30 and caught a few decent trout before the tide stopped and the bite was over.

Lower Galveston Bay 6/22

Another great day. 18 keepers up to 21 inches and about another 50 or more undersize trout. a few sandies a few ladyfish and only 1 hardhead today. At least 85% of our fish today were specks. All caught on a cajun thunder with shrimp underneath. Just non stop action again today which was great because I had 2 kids on teh boat again today. They loved it!!! They were both excellent fishermen ( 9 & 14 yrs old) along with their grandpa and dad. I love taking kids, it is actually my favorite type of trips. hardcore anglers are good because i can fish but it sure is fun watching these kids hook up every 5 minutes and they just love every minute of it. They kept me busy today for sure baiting and casting and unhooking fish but that is why they pay me the big bucks!!! LOL Take a kid fishing!

Lower Galveston Bay 6/20

It was a perfect fishing trip for kids because we caught fish the entire 7 hours we were out there. Started out catching sandies, small specks and a few puppy drum and that lasted until they were bored from catching them on every cast. So I decided to hit another spot and look for some keepers. We ended up with 14 keepers up to 21 inches and we still caught fish on almost every cast because we caught tons of under size specks a mack a few more drum and some croakers in teh next spot. Great day for the kids because it was constant action. Take a kid fishing or 3 like I did today.
Tight Lines and happy fathers day!!

Jetties, lower Galveston Bay 6/15

What a mistake it was to go to the jetties. Anchored up along the boat cut and didnt catch much but a bonnet head shark, af ew atlantic kingfish and some croaker. And it was tough to catch them. After a few hours we went to a few of my protected spots in Lower Galveston Bay and finally caught a few decent trout along with ladyfish and a ton of hardheads. When you have kids on the boat they dont care what you catch as long as you are catching so it saved the day since nothing was biting at the jetties. Wind was howling again today S-SSW @ 17-20. It feels like april again since this wind will just not stop. Hopefully next week the wind will laydown. One thing I can tell you is that when the wind does laydown you better be on the water because it is going to be on like donkey kong.

East Bay 6/13

Tough conditions and tough bite today. We ended up with only 5 keepers ( 1 red, 4 trout) but even though we didnt catch any 7 pounders nor caught 60 -70 trout today it was one of the best days of the year. The reason for that was young Roberto. He had the time of his life and caught 1 keeper red and 3 rat reds all by himself today and a ton of undersize trout all on shrimp. Every time one of the adults would hook up we would hand it to young roberto. He had a smile on his face all day long. He was a great fishermen also for 9 years old. He could bait his own hook and make good casts, he could also pop his cork properly and he learned a lot of new things today about fishing. This is what fishing is all about and the reason I have the best job in the world!!!!!

Lower Galveston Bay 6/8

Full moon and 20 mph winds means tough fishing. We scratched out 10 keepers and the main bite seemed to be early this morning. We caught lots of ladyfish, sandies a croaker and a few spanish macks. All we could do today was find protected areas off of shorelines. Today it was SE at 20 early this morning and was about 18 mph out of the South by noon. We used shrimp under a cajun thunder today. I am starting to like that cork. It does very well on a med light rod and seems to have gotten more bites in teh last 2 days over a plastic cork with the rattles inside. Take a kid fishing and dont forget dad on Fathers day!!!

Lower Galveston Bay 6/7

Yes it was windy today!! 17-20 out of the S turning to the SE later in the day. I had a really competitive couple on the boat today. The wife kept track of the score all day long. She won today catching 13 to her husbands 10 trout. We hit 2 different spots and caught 23 trout and about 8 to 10 ladyfish and 1 jack. We chased the jack from 12:30 until 2:00 when the line finally broke. all fish caught on shrimp under a popping cork and no big fish today. our biggest was about 20 inches. They were all released which is nice!! definitely a fun day!

Lower Galveston Bay 6/5

I wasnt expecting too much today being that a front moved thru yesterday , we had high pressure and it was blowing NE @ 18 this morning when we launched. But we did fairly well today. No big trout today but we caught a lot of them. Bite was fairly steady this morning until about 10am and then it slacked off until about noon. Lots of bait in the water and that is where the fish were. Did several drifts and ended up with 2 jacks that broke off (thankfully) and about 10 trout. Moved around and found another small group and caught another 5 or 6 about noon. The wind finally laid down about 1 pm and then we worked the birds until about 3 pm before heading in today. So all in all it was definitely a good day on the water. I had a father and son duo in from Pennsylvania and it is always nice to see that. Nothing better than taking pops fishing right before fathers day. They threw artificials all day at their request and did quite well.

East Bay 6/1

2 bad days in a row for me. Today was worse than yesterday. At least yesterday we hadabout a dozen keepers (granted it was me and 2 other guides) and today i had 1 client on the boat and he wanted to throw croaker. So we got 3 dozen croaks for him and it sucked. It was a SE wind at 15-18 almost all day. Found a lot of slicks and threw croaker in all of them. 0 keepers today. 4-5 undersize trout and lots of gafftop. My client had several good bites this morning but they just didnt hang on. I am not much of a croaker soaker guide since this is my first time all year throwing them. I do much better on lures or a popping cork w/ shrimp. I better stay with what i am good with. If we had shrimp today we would have smoked em. ( at least I am going to think that way) I found slicks everywhere I went. very dissapointing day. oh well that is fishing and I am human. and so are the trout! lol

East Bay 5/31

tough day today for sure. Me and 2 other buddies of mine that are guides all went out for a trip. We caught about 12 trout today on the reefs. We found a few areas where there were some fishing biting but is was definitely off today. No wind until after noon and not much tide movemment in the morning. We gave up about 1 pm.

Lower Galveston Bay 5/28

Tough day today! We could only manage undersize fish and ladyfish all morning until our last stop at 2 pm where we found the bigger trout and a lot of birds working. They just werent feeding well because of the high pressure earlier in the day. Ended up with 10 keepers and a ton of undersize trout. My clients had a great time so that is all that matters.

Lower galveston Bay 5/27

We killed em today. we caught almost every species in teh bay today. Sandies , specks, gafftop, sheepshead, ladyfish, mackerel and reds. Started out with arties and my clients caught about 30 -35 small ones. then we hit the shorelines with shrimp and a popping cork and started catching some nice keepers. About that time our rods started buzzing from teh electricity in the air so we went in at 11 ish. Not bad for snowbirds, They did very well for such a short trip

East Bay 5/25

What a difference a day can make. No storms today but fishing was tough. Fished my spot for 3 hours with only 1 big fish and a few other keepers. Maybe that west wind shut them down today like it will do sometimes in summer. Hit several reefs today and caught a few on all of them but is was never just on fire like it has been all week. Wind was NW @ 15 this morning and then it went calm for a few hours and then turned SE @ 15 -17 in teh afternoon. We made a day of it with about 12 keepers and a lot of throwwbacks under the birds.

East Bay 5/24

Hit the spot I had been fishing for the last few days and it was definitely on fire again. Caught some football trout and got a pic of one and the other I dropped it and it hit the gunnel and fell in the water. Had a shark attack also. A huge shark came up and ate 1 of our trout as we were pulling it in. It was an awesome sight!!!! We also hooked a jack crevalle that almost spooled my client! We released all teh bigger fish today and kept the ones under 20 inches. We only got to fish about a good 2 1/2 hours before the storms ran us off teh water. My clients were rookies but they caught all fish on arties and they did great for being rookies. ended up with 18 to fillet up back at the launch but we caught a lot more than that. Great day on teh water!!

East Bay 5/23

I cant beleive I forgot my camera today of all days!! Unbelievable day today. Caught 90 -100 fish. Had 3 full limits by noon and we just played catch and release until 3:30. One 7 pounder a few 6 pounders a dozen 5 pounders and who knows how many 3-4 pounders. I have another trip tomorow and I hope the storms let us get out there again. It was 1 of my best trips all year. Caught fish on every drift and on 1 drift we caught at least 12-13 fish. Fat boys was a mad house at 5 am but by 6 am it wasnt bad at all. i should have launched at 6 am rather than thinking about beating teh crowd. Mad house at 5 am! We caught all of our fish on sand eel jr's and they wanted it low and slow.

Lower Galveston Bay 5/22

Tough day today! For some reason I just didnt have it today. We hit all the spots in that area and could only must a few keepers. Found some birds working and they had gafftop under them aarrgghhh!!! Then found another set of birds and they were ladyfish! Another arrghhh!! Hit swan lake and caught 1 nice red and a few undersize trout Aaarrghhh! Then hit west bay and caught a few more undersize trout and 2 keeper trout. By this time Iwas really frustrated!Today just wasnt my day!! Water clarity was fair and wind was NE @15 all day long. 1 guy threw shrimp and the other 2 threw plastics. Oh yeah we also caught a few croaker and 1 sheepshead!

Lower Galveston Bay 5/18

Tough day of fishing for sure. Launched at 8 AM with a 23-25 mph NE wind. Ran to West Bay to see if anything was protected and it was a giant mudhole. Then ran over to the only protected water in Lower Galveston Bay and it wasnt much better. Did 1 long drift with a few bites but no takers. Anchored up on the Pelican island bridge for 1/2 an hour and caught a few small croakers. About noon the wind died below 20 mph so we went looking for some decent water and we found some finally. ANd slicks were plenty so we hammered out until about 4 pm and ended up with 12 trout and 1 red. A few throwwbacks and a few break offs also. Lots of solid fish and we had 2 over 4 pounds. 2 guys throwing shrimp under a popping cork and me and the other guy throwing plastics. Not a bad day considering the terrible conditions!

East Bay 5/16

Finally had the perfect the day!!! The wind laid down the water was fair and the fishing was on fire!! Started out in Lower galveston Bay and got skunked. Nada zero. About 10 Am decided to make a major move to East Bay. We fished slicks in the middle of the bay and hosed 'em today. the 2 older guys were throwing shrimp and the young guy and myself were throwing bass assassins (dark colors). We probaly lost a dozen fish or more at the boat or broke off or the guys just not setting the hook. We ended up 8 shy of a 3 man limit up to 5.5 pounds. The main bite was from noon till 2 pm. Finally a perfect weather day !!!!

East Bay 5/15

Well it was a short bite this morning but we hammered them from 8 till 9:30. same pattern as last week. they were very finicky and they wanted it low and slow. ended up with about 25 trout up to 4.5 pounds. winds was SE @14 which is super nice and I am loving it. That just seems like it is calm after the last 6-8 weeks of 20 plus. It is definitely all about location and technique the guys on each side of us were not catching anything at all which is why they got to within 50 yards of us trying to catch some but they could only muster 2 or 3 fish from what we saw. Remember guys the pattern is low and slow!!! We fished the RSC 3rd annual Bay bash fishing tournament today and we came in 1st place. Not bad considering the small window we had. Had to leave at 11 am to get back to the weigh in.

East Bay 5/9

I knew what to expect today and it happened exactly as I thought. Worked slicks for hours with only a few fish. In fact I had 1 and my partner had 7 by 10 am. But then at 11 around the time of the major it turned on. From 11 to 1 we caught a lot of fish today(aprox 30 to hand). We both had about 15 a piece to our hand and released not counting the 10-12 that we hooked and lost while reeling. Caught at least 3 5 pounders today and several 4 pounders. My partner caughta 4 pound flatty taht I am frying up soon!!! The big fish were caught in closer to the shoreline and the males were caught a few hundred yards off the shoreline. Fish were in the same spot I caught them a few days ago. We just stayed in the same spot and never moved which is what you really have to do when you are on the slicks because eventually they will bite. They wanted dark plastics crawled slowly on the bottom. Great day for sure. There were guys just 100 yards away from us throwing croakers and we saw them catch 1 fish. It is just not time to be soaking croaks yet. There were a lot of boats on teh shorelines today and everybody was moving around which is why I am guessing they didnt do well.

East Bay 5/3

It is very frustrating when you are on the fish and they are slicking like crazy right in front of you for 4 straight hours and only land 7 fish.  Slicks slicks slciks . We never moved but 20 yards the whole 4-5 hours and it took us 2 hours to figure out what they wanted to eat. Started out with topwaters with no strikes then bass assasins, then corkys and after no bites I decided to throw a silver spoon on and boom. It wasnt every cast like it should have been because of all the slicks but it was enough to keep me happy especially with the size. After I landed 1 25's 2 24's 3 22's and a 20 and my budy landed none i decided to hand over to him our only silver spoon between us so he could catch them. Well as he was tying on he dropped it inb the water and we fished another hour without a bite and left. he caught a 5 inch croaker all day long in the same exact spot I caught those hawgs. Man did I give him ***** the whole time. Poor guy. Only because he is one of my best friends could I do that to him. Wind was SW @17-21 water clarity was fair. fish were caught near shell and silty sand

Lower Galveston Bay 4/29

Like usual the weather man has no idea what he is talking about. Launched at 7 Am and it was blowing SE @ 18 mph; by noon it was a sustained 22 mph with gusts to 30. 2-3 foot rollers all over the bay. It was just ridiculous out there. When is this wind ever going to end????????????????

But I definitely found the fish. We had 2 shy of a 3 man limit with 20 -30 throwbacks. The crazy thing is that we found tons of slicks on the shorelines and these darn fish were just burpin up again. Slick after slick after slick, cast after cast after cast in the middle of fresh slicks and nothing. Now that was frustrating to say the least. We had to fish the middle of the bay in White caps to catch fish and my clients were troopers about it only because we caught a lot of fish today. They were soaking wet and so was i from overspray. Most of the fish were caught on a sand eel jr and the biggest fish was 3.5 pounds.

Lower Galveston Bay 4/28

What a day!! Started out throwing tops in the morning in acres and acres of mullet in 3-6 ft of water. Catching solid 3-4 pounders! They shut off about 10:30 AM. They were still slicking like crazy but they wouldnt bite. Went to another area in 2.5 to 3.5 ft of water about 11:30 and still slicking but they wouldnt bite. Then i noticed a school of jacks going crazy and my dumba$$decides to throw a corky in teh middle of them. An hour later I am out in the middle of the bay and this thing is still going! But I finally just crank my drag down and decide I am either going to land this fish or break off because my arm hurts. So I finally net it and release it and then I notice the birds. 4 or 5 sets all with dinks under them. i only fished them for a half hour until I hooked a seagull and decided that I knew where I was taking my clients tomorrow. Good day for sure especially since the wind was only about 15 mph by midday. Which is like heaven compared to the last 4-5 weeks. Water was still dirty but cleaning up little by litle as that incoming tide came in and the wind laid down. Tight lines to all and remember to take a kid fishing!!

East bay 4/26

Launched over on Bolivar around 8:30 with 4 waders. Fished from Seavers to Stingaree cut. slicks everywhere on the shorelines and the water on the shorelines was beautiful. First wade we caught about 9 trout up to 4 1/2 pounds on the boga and 2 flatties. About 10 pm the bite shut off. Not the slicks but the bite. we thru everything in the box and could only manage 3 or 4 fish after the minor. Did several wades where slicks were popping up right in front of us but they were just burping up from their earlier feed. Lots of slicks and lots of bait but they just werent feeding. Some of the guys couldnt stay for the major so we left around 1:30 right before the major started and I am guessing they would have fed again. Wind Was SE to SSE at 15 to 20 and picked up as teh day went on.

Greens Lake (West Bay) 4/25

What a rewarding job I have. Nothing is better than seeing a kid smile and get all excited about catching a fish. We caught a mixed bag of fish today including hardheads, trout , croaker and a ton of puppy drum. Today wasnt about bragging rights or catching limits of trout or reds. Today was about putting smiles on young Taylor and Zachary and the whole family. Conditions were horrible to say the least. Sustained 20 mph winds and not much tide movement but the littleones were biting and we caught a lot of em. All fish caught in Greens lake on shrimp. Dont forget our future generations and take a kid fishing!!

Trinity Bay 4/15

My last couple of days on the water has been tough fishing. Went up to the pocket today where I had been killing them before all this wind started 2-3 weeks ago and could only muster up a few fish. Water clarity was fair at best maybe 6-10 inches. We tried plastics on a jig and plastics under a cork and they wanted the ones under a rattling cork. My client and I were only out there a few hours before the wind started cranking and we could only muster up 1 slot red and a few under size trout. We Kept getting hits and they kept pulling the cork under but we just werent getting them hooked. They were just grabbing the tails because the tails were shredded. A buddy of mine had clients out there yesterday and he said that they couldnt catch any on plastics but they were catching them on live shrimp only. I should have listened to him and bought shrimp since my client today is not an arties only guy. But we had a good time and that is what matters.

Lower Galveston Bay 4/14

Had clients this morning that were NOT fishing. They were checking out some underwater pipelines at the causeway so after I dropped them off I decided to do a little scouting about noon. Winds were NE to E @16-18. Water was dirty almost everywhere. I hit about 4 major areas and only caught 1 fish in each area. Ended up with 2 trout and 2 reds. Parks & Wildlife biologist was at Fatboys doing surveys and she said that nobody caught any quantities of fish today. So I didnt feel too bad. I am heading to upper Galveston Bay tomorow with clients and I think it will be a much better bite. Especially on a SE wind. looks like the next few days the wind is back up to 20 kts every day until at least Sunday. Once we can get some stable weather and a few days of S or SE winds that stay under 15kts it is going to be on fire but until then it is going to be hit or miss. Good luck everyone and tight lines to all!~

Trinity Bay 4/13

Launched in what was supposed to ideal conditions. weather man said SW @ 5 and it was SW @ 15 which isnt good for anything. Fished a few reefs on the west shoreline of Trinity and caught 1 nice red. Hit the pocket and caught 1 nice trout. Wind switched to the NW @ 20 around noonish. We did a few more drifts but by then the whole bay was wrecked and it was just muddy everywhere with whitecaps all around. I caught those fish under a poppin cork with a sand eel jr while my 2 buddies got skunked. I think the popping cork was the ticket in that dirty water since they only had a few bites but no takers.

Lower Galveston Bay 4/10

Not a bad day on the water considering all of the wind we have had lately and I just havent been able to be on the water and have some good patterns going. Wind was West @ 15 at 6 am but by 9 am it was Variable @ 5. Had young Isaac and his dad on the boat today throwing live shrimp under a popping cork and they did great. Young Isaac outfished his dad 2 to 1 and he had a 22 and 21 inch trout to boot. Ended up with about 14 trout and 7 or 8 rat reds. Water clarity was excellent and it was just a great day to be on the water. I love my job!!

West Bay 4/4

Did nothing but wade from 11 till 6 Never found the trout just reds. Ended up with 4 slot reds and 4 rat reds and 1 barely legal flat. I didnt move around much just stayed in 2 coves most of teh time. The time I did move around there was some guy burning coves that i wanted to go in. As I watched him go in and out of coves at full throttle I just thought there was no way those fish were going to sit tight and bite so I ended up staying put and waiting for the trout to show up at high tide but they never did. Wind was SE at 12-15 most of the day. All fish were caught on a sand eel jr and 1/16th oz jig. All fish released to fight another day
Dickinson Bay 4/3

Finally got my boat out of the shop and headed to the water to do some scouting. Launched at dickinson bayou and hit that area all day trying to locate some fish. It was tough. Outgoing tide was ripping out till about 10 am and then it turned and was pouring in by 1 pm. Hit moses lake without even a bump. Did a few drifts along dollar point and that shoreline and not even a bump. Hit april fools point and no takers. Finally caught a nice 4 1/2 pound trout and 1 slot red in dickinson bay. That was it. Just a little soon after that front from yesterday is all. Tomorow should be much better now that it will be 2 days away from that blast of high winds. Water clarity was bad everywhere. Lots of bait in most of those areas. Sunday is going to be another blowout with high winds and NW winds but tomorow I expect a good bite. it has been awhile since I have been in that area and there were only a few navigational hazards and they were all marked so that area looks good.

3/18 Trinity Bay

I was fully expecting another unbelievable bite again but it wasnt so. It was average at best today. Ended up with 9 keeper trout 1 keeper red and about 10 dink trout and 1 rat red. Nothing like yesterday but what matters is that little Logan with the broken leg caught a red and every time I hooked a trout i handed my pole to him. he had a blast and that is what matters. Wind was SW at 8-10 and we started out throwing dark baits and then switched over to bright baits and that seemed to be the ticket today. No secrets on baits 1/8 and 1/4 oz jigs with sand eel jr's on them. Like I said what matters is that the kid had a blast not that we had a meat haul like yesterday even though that would have been funner.

3/17 Trinity Bay

Today we didnt go fishing we went catching. We caught fish from the time we started our first drift at 10 Am and left them biting at 6:30. It is really hard to guesstimate how many fish we caught today. I know we caught 12 reds for sure and aprox 70-80 trout. All fish caught in 3.5 to 5.5 ft of water. water temp started at 55 and ended up at 65 at the end of the day. Wind was W - SW at 5-10. I had 3 college kids on the boat down from Ft Worth on Spring Break and they were lovin every minute of it. I didnt have the heart to tell them that you dont catch them like this every day I just let them think I was the man. Didnt matter what we threw, light or dark and 1 guy used a spoon most of teh day and he caught 5 of the reds. A really great day on the water especially compared to yesterdays debacle in West Bay with only 2 dinks.

3/16 West Bay

Tough fishing today!!! I had a family of 4 on board today and we definitely didnt do very well. Lauched at Pirates at 8 AM and water temp was 55 which is a 20 degree drop from last wednesday. Started out drifting a few coves teaching 2 kids how to cast a spoon and retrieve and these kids were pros by the end of the day. They did great. Unfortunately I just couldnt find a decent mess of fish to put them on. I went everywhere from Meacoms to deer island to confederate to caranchua and couldnt muster anything noteworthy but a dink or 2. I didnt get a chance to cast any myself so I am not sure if it was them or they just werent biting and since I saw 3 mullet flip all day I am guessing the bite was just off. No crabs in the bait camps because the crabbers werent working in the rain so I had to go chase big uglies with dead shad. After an hour with no bites we decided to call it a day about 2 pm. I am heading up to the north end of the bay tomorrow I hope I do 1000% better up there. tight lines to all and I hope someone did better than me today!!

3/11 West Bay

Had to do some scouting before the front hit so I launched at Fat boys today about 9 AM. Water clarity was excellent on the South side of the bay. Just throwing 1/8 oz jigs and plum assassins. Hit several different areas. All fish were caught in 2-4 feet of water. Had 2 blowups on a skitterwalk but no takers. Ended up with 7 reds and 5 trout. All trout were pigs from 4 to 5 pounds. I have a few kids to take fishing next week so I got a half dozen crabs and went over to the channel to catch some big uglies. It was easy. Caught 5 in about 2 hours. All in all a good day!!
Water temp was 75 and the water was a perfect trout green!! Wind was E-SE at 10-14 all day. It really was a perfect day on the water. Take a kid fishing!!!!!!!

3/7 & 3/8 Trinity Bay

Saturday was windy as can be. 20-25 sustained with gusts to 30. Caught 1 fish in my usual spots water was muddy chop was rough. Pulled out and headed over to east bay and hit some areas on the south shoreline. Bite started out slow but around 4:30 they decided to feed and we caught about 8 or 9 up to 4 pounds before dark on corkys and topwaters. Sunday was the day with clients and after yesterday I tried to postpone but they had to go today. The wind wasnt too bad today but the bite was still slow ended up with 5 keepers only. The 9 year old kid was awesome! he caught 2 of those 5 all by himself ( 3 and 4 pounder) working an assassin on a 7 ft med light spinner with a 1/8oz jig. He had a blast even though we didnt kill em today. Just watching him pull those fish in and seeing his smile that wouldnt go away just made my day and his too.

3/4 Trinity Bay

it was almost an exact repeat of yesterday except the fish moved a little. slicks galore and plenty of solid fish were caught today, same thing plum on a 1/8 oz jig worked slowly on the bottom using plum assassins. Again the fish were caught in 3-4 ft of water with the bigger ones being caught shallow. Took home full box of limits and was even culling the smaller ones out for bigger ones. The fish ate all day long and we left them biting. Fished from 10 till 2 and had trout up to 5 pounds. Lost a lot more at the boat and to not setting the hook in time since they were running at the boat. They were definitely hungry again today.
3/03 Trinity Bay

We had a big push of water in the bay today and the fish fed for the whole 6 hours I was out there. I launched around 9:30ish. the water was really low and it was still dirty. The fish were feeding on primarily shad. I hooked a big shad and shad were being chased everywhere. Water clarity was about 10 inches. Wind was E to SE @ 13-17. The depth I was targeting was 3.5 to 4.5 ft. I started out with a plum assassin on a 1/8th oz jig and never had to change. Slicks were everywhere and I caught 30 - 40 trout (no reds)all in the 2-4 pound range(no big girls today probably because I wasnt fishing in 2-3 ft of water). That big push of water in really had them feeding well and I am sure they were hungry after that front shut them down a few days ago.

3/01 Trinity Bay

I had a trip on Monday set up do I decided to go out and see if any spots were fishable. And teh answer was "no" so I rescheduled until wednesday! So I decided to take this opportunity to run around and check out spots for wading and finding obstructions in the water. Didnt see too many obstructions that i didnt already know about except the one that I hit. It was in 3 feet of water which is normally 6 feet of water so i didnt mark it. I probably learned more about places to fish today than I have learned in the last 3 years. I found some nice guts in shallow flats that I never knew were there and I cant wait to get back in the water with a normal tide and fish them. Days like today are great for learning and not fishing and I really learned a lot. Although I only had a few bites I realized that this was one of my best days on the water this year just because of the knowledge I gained. I love turning lemons in to lemonade. Should be a little better tomorow but Tuesday and wednesday are gonna be the days. See you on the water!!

2/21 Trinity Bay

The front wasnt supposed to hit until 6-8 pm and of course like usual the weather man was wrong. Didnt have clients yesterday but I decided to go with a few friends since it was time to go hunt for some big girls wading. My buddies that got their early caught 20 trout on tops both wading and in the boat before we even got there. All solid fish with his best around 5 or 6 pounds. I didnt get in the water till about 1 pm and we only had a good hour of smokin em before the front hit. Caught them on plastics and corkies. Once that front blew in they shut down and the bite was tough. We caught a few but you could tell the bite was off because they were just smacking our baits without hookin up. We stayed until dark and stuck out the rain but probably only picked up 4 fish after the front blew thru. They are stacked up in this spot and I wish I had someone to take out there today! It sounds like the bite is tough by reading other reports but I think it is becasue we are starting our transition in to spring and the fish are moving around so dont be afraid to go try somewhere totally different.

2/20 Trinity Bay

Launched at 10 AM. Hit 3 or 4 different areas and caught at least 1-2 fish on each drift at these different spots but nothing big and not too much excitement for long drifts. The baits being used were catch 2000's & bass assasins (1/8 - 1/4 oz) in 5-8 ft of water. The catch 2000 bites came when it was sitting still and just slowly sinking and on the assassins they wanted it slow and on the bottom. Started working areas of slicks in 2-4 ft of water and caught a dozen or so 3-4 pounders and a few more 5-7 pounders. Fished with a great bunch of guys from the area who were also fine fishermen. My guys todays were catch and release only so all big fish live to fight again another day!! I love catch & release because it is just the right thing to do for those big girls!!! We will see if the pattern holds tomorrow. to be continued.....

2/15 Burnett & Scotts Bay

Bite was still off but it was better than the last few days and teh wind was NE @15-20. My clients did great on arties today. I bought shrimp for them but we never threw em. It took about 20 minutes of teaching them to work the lure properly and then they were fine. Foundem about 2 PM in 3-5 ft of water throwing plum and morning glory. We only boxed 8 trout and 1 flounder but they were pigs. 2 under 20 and the rest were over 20 topped out at 24 inches. We actually had a lot more hookups but they just wouldnt hold on. Lost at least a dozen fish after the bite. My clients had never fished saltwater before and they had no idea what nice fish they were catching. The bite should only get better as we get closer to the new moon.

2/13 Burnett & Scotts Bay

Today was just one of those days that the bite was shut down. Launched under the fred hartman at noonish. Got in to a spot that had a lot of mullet. First 5 casts I had 2 nice trout about 20 inches. I thought sweet it is going to be on like donkey kong!! Then 3 hours of not a single hit. Well I shouldnt say that because after about 2 hours of no bites I decided to switch colors and my assassin was shredded with bites. The funny thing is that I was using braid which is supersensitive and I never felt one single hit. Very weird!!!! After a small storm rolled thru it went slick calm which was terrible because i left the trollin motor at home accidentally. However I did catch 2 on a corky back to back aorund 4:30 ish. about 1/2 hour later I caught a nice upper slot red. That was it in 6 hours of fishing. I hit all my usual spots and the bite was just shut down today. The good thing is that the water has gotten back to normal levels so wading should be darn good tomorrow if you can do it. I have clients that are not capable of wading on sunday so tomorows scouting expedition will be all out of the boat. Other wise I would be in west or east wading all day because that is where the good bite will be!!!!!

2/6 Burnett Bay

tough day today with the wind blowing SE @ 18-20. Did nothing but wade today since it was way too windy to drift. Got in to the water around 1 pm and caught 5 rat reds within the first hour or 2. Did some moving around and didnt catch much until about 4:30 when we caught 1 trout about 24 inches 1 red about 23 inches and 1 flounder about 21 inches. All fish caught on bass assassins and 1/16th oz jig head. My clients were happy so that is all that matters. Water was messed up everywhere but that is much better than being gin clear. Didnt see any large concentrations of bait.

2/5 West Bay

decided to go check out west bay to see if they have piled up in there yet. And there were a few trout and reds in there today. Not many but a few. I wanted to go make sure I wasnt missing 100 fish days down there and now I know I am not. Did a few drifts at meacoms and found a few scattered schoolies but very few. Found a big pile of fish out in front of the first pylon down teh old intracoastal. they were small. Biggest was 17 and 1 red that was 19. Did a few drifts behind confederate and found some bigger trout. solid 2 to 2 1/2 pounders (4 of them) and 2 nice reds. I wanted a few flatties to fry up with some homemade fries but never found em. Believe it or not by 4 pm both of my reels had birds nest that I couldnt get out and I had to call it a day. Thats ok though I was just out scouting for my trip tommorow. Back to teh fred hartman bridge tommorow. Much nicer fish up there just cant eat em because they have more mercury than a thermometer in them. All fish were caught in 4 ft of water. not 4.5 not 3.5 but every time I caught a trout I looked at my depth and it was 4 ft except the reds behind confederate which were in 3 ft

2/3 Burnett & Scotts

Fished the usual spots today in the back lakes of the houston ship channel. Yes I do fish there a lot because there are a lot of fish up there and rule number 1 is you do not leave fish to find fish. That is true in all cases!!! Had some really cool guys on the boat from Baltimore. 1 was a die hard fishermen and the other was not. Of course the guy who wasnt put it on both of our arses. every where we went today we caught fish. Most of them were throwbacks though. The fish were not very aggressive on that Westerly wind since we hooked several in their bodies like they were slapping it and we got a lot of just hits with no takers. We ended the day with 9 reds and 14 keeper trout and aprox 20 - 25 throwbacks. There was only 2 of them so we could only keep 6 reds the others were thrown back. As a guide I am not allowed to keep any fish. Wind was West @ 5-8 most of the day and then turned SE @ 12 about 4:30. We launched at Sylvan at 10:30 and the water was low so we drifted the flats closest to the channel and caught a lot of small trout early. Biggest was 21 inches but the rest were 16-18. When that wind turned SE we started drifting in the middle and caught nothing but reds. All 9 reds were caught from 4:30 to dark in the same 100 yard area that we drifted over and over. They definitely wanted a dark bait and they definitely wanted a 1/16th oz jighead today. The rookie caught 5 of the reds and his buddy caught 2 and I caught 2. The rookie was using 1/16th and had 4 reds to our none. That is when we decided to change and then we started catching them. what a difference that made!! All in all a great day with a great bunch of guys!! I love my job!!!

2/2 Burnett

Yes believe it or not I did launch in 20 knot winds at daylight under the Fred Hartman bridge. Went straight to the back end of Burnett where the waves werent 2 footers and caught 2 trout both about 21 to 22 inches. Did several drifts and caught both fish were the mullet were located. After about an hour the wind got even stronger at about 25-30 knots. This made it too difficult to cast or work a lure so I hunkered down on the top end of the bay and did some experiementing with different techniques and lures. Basically I just powere poled down near the shoreline. About 10:30 I went and picked up my best buddy to take him out for his B-Day. About noon the wind backed down to a tolerable level but the fish just werent in the top end becase of the outgoing tide. So we braved the waves and decided to hit the flats closer to the ship channel and that is exactly were the fish were at. We left about 2 pm with 4 reds and 5 trout not including my 2 trout this morning. Nothing to brag about but not bad for 20-30 knot winds on a day meant for staying at home and doing maintenance on the boat. We were using heavier jigheads to help feel the hits and control the baits better in that heavy chop. He caught his fish on pearl/chart flat killers on 1/4 and 3/8 oz jigs and I used a plum assassin on a 1/4 oz jig all day long. Tomorrow is looking like decent weather so I am expecting to kill em tomorrow!! See you on the water!!!

1/31 Burnett & Scotts

I never thought I would be able to put the word "skunk" in any of my reports. Especially after the great winter it has been. High pressure, west winds, minimal tides equals skunketh maximus. launched at sylvan at noon and went everywhere I caught fish the day before plus a few other spots. No hits, no bites, no fish! Wow I am still amazed. I thought I was infallible after these last few months of easy limits of trout on just about every trip and 2 to 9 reds on almost every trip. My client was happy to hear I was giving him the no fish no pay ponzi scheme after todays debacle.  Not that it matters but the wind was W to SW most of the day. We threw everything I had in my tackle bag plus everything my client had in his tackle bag. It didnt matter they had lockjaw!!!

1/30 Sylvan, Tabbs

I have a couple of trips lined up for this week so after fishing in Florida for the past 2 weeks it was time to get on the water and do some scouting. Launched about 11:30 at Sylvan and made the rounds. First stop was Burnett. Nothing at all, no bites and not 1 mullet was seen. Tide wasnt moving so that didnt help anything either. About 1:30 I started getting a fewbites. Caught 1 nice slot red and 2 trout that were keepers but barely. The fish were there, just not feeding. So I decided to head to lower trinity where I found some really nice fish!! Caught 1 red and 2 trout that measured 22 and 23 inches in 2.5 to 3 ft of water. I am sure I could have caught more but I wanted to make sure they were there for my clients on saturday so I left. It was about 4 pm so I decided to head back to the launch and look for some fish along the sylvan shoreline. My favorite spot along the shoreline produced nothing so I went over to one of the sloughs and caught 2 nice trout about 18 & 19 inches respectively. I figured they were there so I didnt want to pressure them anymore and headed back to the launch. All fish caught on plum bass assasin and 1/8th OZ jig. water clarity was fair with about 10-14 inch visibility. Actually that is the perfect visibility for trout so it was perfect visibilty. Wind was NW @ 5-10. The bite was definitely in the afternoon!!
1/15/09 Burnett & Scotts

The fishing is so easy right now it is stupid. The fish have been holding in the same areas for a few weeks now and they are very predicatable. They are feeding heavy on the high tide as it turns and starts going out ward. And they are of course feeding on the majors and minors. The water clarity was fair today 12-18 inches and the wind was variable SE to N @ 4-10 knots. The fish wanted dark baits again today. I used a norton sand eel jr on a 1/8th oz jig and caught most of my fish on that. I did switch later to a 1/4oz jig to get some casting distance and didnt get as many bites so they definitely wanted that slower flutter downward. Ended up with 2 slot reds and 25-30 trout. We werent counting today and releasing all of them. It was a really good day!!

1/12/09 Burnett & Scotts

It was cold and windy and the bite was very slow for most of the morning. It was easy to do long drifts with 15 knot winds at your back. Around 12:30 the action started picking up most of the fish were caught in the middle to upper end. The water was extremely low and dropping. Water temp was 55-57 degrees and water clarity was coffee stained to fishable. Most of the fish were caught in the cleaner water. 1 red & 6 trout was all we could muster up. we had to leave around 2 knowing they were just starting to get hungry!

1/1/09 Burnett & Scotts

Hit Burnett about noon today and the bite was slow. The mullet just werent around like they were just before this front. But when the major started around 3 they started to bite a little more often and we ended up catching 4 or 5 on every drift. The farther the sun went down the more consistent the bite became and it didnt hurt that we had them pinned down over a certain area and holding there. The trout bite was extremely light and the reds hammered the soft plastics. All fish were caught on bass assasins and sand eel jrs on 1/8 OZ and 1/4 OZ jigheads. We caught a lot of fish today and they definitely wanted a dark bait. Wind was tetering SE to SSE @ 10-14. Water clarity was excellent.

12/30 Burnett Bay

Tough day today with no wind whatsoever until noon. We all complain about the wind and rarely do we get days like today where we complain because of NO wind. Absolutely slick calm all morning but we grinded out a decent box. Ended up with 22 keeper trout up to 4 pounds, 1 slot red and 2 keeper flatties. Had a few throwbacks also. The mullet were stacked up in Burnett and it seemed like we should have caught a 100 fish today with all of the bait in Burnett. I think the lack of wind hurt us today. My party enjoyed themselves ( a fellow 2 cooler 'Yak07' ) so that is all that counts! Water clarity was excellent and a SE wind at 8 mph picked up about noon. Most fish were caught on bass assassins and sand eel jr's on 1/4 and 1/8 oz jigheads. It seemed that they wanted a dark color bait today.

12/24 Sylvan Shoreline

Had a couple of guys call me last night for a spur of the moment trip for this morning. The wind was SSE @ 11-14 at 7 AM and the tide was high so we started out drifting the shorelines South of the Sylvan launch. We started catching trout immediately and it didnt stop until about 9 AM. All very healthy trout from 18-24 inches. Checked out a few other spots after the bite shut down but nada. Ended up working the pylons about noon when the front pushed thru and got on the reds steady once the wind died down. Ended up with 9 reds a black drum and 2 undersize flounder at the pylons. I took some older gentlemen and man were they good fishermen. I usually do not get outfished but these guys put it on me today. They were using plum/chart assassins and I am not sure what size jigs they had on. I used tequila/chart sand eel jr and 1/8th oz on the shoreline and a 1/4 oz at the pylons. They ended up taking home 20 trout and 6 reds. I saw 2 other boats all morning. It was a great morning!!

12/20 Sylvan Shoreline

We launched at daylight. Water clarity was good and wind was S to SW @ 11-14. Started out on the shoreline South of the Sylvan launch & started catching dinks on every cast in front of the bayou. But we wanted some better fish so after 15 or 20 dinks we had enough and decided to try a few spots that had scattered shell over mud. We ended up catching four 19 to 20 inch trout and 1 nice slot red over the shell in 4-5 ft of water. I was licking my chops to go try and catch reds at the ends of the pylons so we made our way over there. The wind was blowing hard on that section of shoreline but we got anchored in and started catching reds immediately. Not big ones like yesterday but 5 good slots in about 45 minutes not to mention the 2 break offs. At about 10 ish the tide was very low and the bite started slowing down and we never caught another fish in any more spots. We headed back to the launch about 11 and we were done. All of my fish were caught on a sand eel jr 1/8 oz in shallow and 1/4 oz working the pylons. Tequila/chart has been the hot color over there so I stuck with it. My partner used a glo/char sand eel jr and a mirrloure 52MR which is why put it on him today on the trout! That and technique of course!

12/7/90 Burnett Bay

Got the boat fixed yesterday after Fridays debacle of running poor. Had to cancel my clients for yesterday (aaarrgghh) but one of my repeat customers called last night and wanted to go today. Looked at the marine forecast and it said East 10-15. Like usual it wasnt what they said. So we ended up launching at the Fred Hartman bridge. As soon as I get out of the small channel you could see slicks and birds working but there were too many boats and I just didnt feel right about cutting guys off to get to fish. But there are definitely fish allover that flat!!! So we headed up the ship channel. Stopped at the first Back lake and it wasnt very good. We did 1 long drift and caught 2 dinks. So we decided to move to the second back lake under the San JAcinto monument. I am glad we did. The water temp was about 58-60 and it was a SE wind @ 15. The water was low but it was rising because of the wind direction. And like usual when the water is low the fish get out in the middle and they were there. Caught a few reds today at least 4 nice slots. We really didnt keep track of how many trout because after a dozen or more you just lose count. I am guessing 20 or so. No flounder but we did have a 4 foot gar come up and gulp air right next to the boat he was huge!! All of my fish were caught on the the same plastic all day(thats why I love sand eel jr's). 1/4 oz jig on a tequila/chartreuse norton sand eel jr. my client used mostly bass assassins. he switched from red shad to purple/char to limetreuse but it didnt seem to matter. Most of our fish were caught between 1:30 to 3:30 when the minor was going on. Amazing how before the minor we only caught a few small ones and after the minor we only caught a few small ones and the good fish always bite during the majors and minors at this time of year. You can count on it!!!

12/17 West bay

Fished west bay from 10 am till 3pm. water was gin clear in some spots. NE wind about 10-13 and lots of fog. The water temp was 53-54 degrees and the fish just were not there today. Caught 1 red at Meacoms cut area in 4 foot of water. Saw 2 mullet on that whole shoreline and consequesntly caught 1 red under the mullet in casting distance. Fished N Deer Island and not a bump. Fished out in the middle over shell and caught 2 reds and 2 trout. At least the trout were solid 2 - 2 1/2 pounders. Other than that nada. Didnt see much bait at all, no slicks either just slow slow slow. All fish caught on a sand eel jr and 1/4 and 1/8 oz jig head. Tomorow is a SE wind so that should bring up the water temp and get these fish going a little better. I will be out tomorow looking for dirty water

happy holidays!

12/19 Sylvan Shoreline

We put in around 11 ish at sylvan and caught reds till our wrists hurt. Not just 18-24 inch reds I am talking upper slot hawgs!!! Smallest red was 25 or 26.  Started out throwing a deep diving mirolure at the ends of the pylons. Caught 2 on that one in the first 5 casts but after that they didnt want it anymore. So I picked up my norton sand eel jr on a 1/4 oz jighead and I caught 3 reds back to back to back. After we caught 6 reds in the same spot I decided to go hunt up some more so that I could catch those fish again tomorrow. The wind was very light if any and it was easy to work the pylons. Caught a couple of dink trout and caught 3 or 4 more reds at different sets of pylons. All of them caught at the ends in 8-9 foot of water. Water clarity was excellent. This was during the minor so they were hungry. Moved up to scotts and Burnett and caught lots of dink trout. I dont know what happened to the nice size trout today but we could only catch dinks. Maybe 17 inches was our biggest trout. Anyways ended up with 1 more red on the East shoreline of Burnett before heading in.

11/29/08 Burnett Bay

Launched at 10 am and headed up the houston ship channel. Fished in sight of the san jacinto monument. It was fairly slow today. Never could get on a good school of fish. They seemed to be scattered today. Caught one here and there. Ended up with 12 keepers all released and at least 20 or so throwbacks and 1 giant black drum (40 plus pounds) that we had to chase down with the boat. No slot reds today which is unusual for up there. Most of the fish were caught on a glo/chartreuse sand eel jr with a 1/4 oz jighead and a variety of bass assassins (light colored). However in late afternoon we did catch a few on corky devils. Slow day overall but it was great to be on the water on such a nice day.  Tide was outgoing most of the day and fish were found at the entrance

11/26 East Bay

Incredible day!!! Hit my favorite slew back in East Bay about 2:30 in the afternoon.  Pulled up to the shoreline to get on our waders and the birds started working a few hundred yards up the shoreline and they were moving our way quickly.  So we set up in front of them and absolutely smoked em.   My client got out of the boat and I stayed in the boat to see if I there were any decent fish under the birds.  I power poled down about 50 yards off the shoreline and the birds settled right in front of me and never moved.  My client was ctahing fish on every cast and so was I so we stayed put and caught an uncountable number of trout and reds in those 2 hours.  Using plastics I was catching fish on every single cast and after an hour I switched to topwater and then I was catching them only every other cast.  We ended up with 3 reds 1 flounder and I am not sure how many trout.  Maybe 100 or 125.  It was just that type of day where everything lined up perfectly.  The tide, new moon, the minor. the weather and the time of year.  Incredible day!!

11/23  West Bay

Took out 1 client today and it was tough fishing but we grinded out a nice box. Started out by wading a few spots and we didnt have much luck. Got in the boat early because of the lack of bites and headed over to meacoms cut and that area. Didnt see any bait at all and consequently we only caught 2 or 3 dinks. Moved over to the S south side of N Deer island and the fish were there. We did about 6 very long drifts and ended up with 5 reds, 10 trout (5 over 3 pounds on boga) and 1 flatty. On our way back to the launch we did a quick stop on the S side of confederate reef and we picked up another slot red and 1 more trout over 3 pounds. Not bad for a few hours on the water. West Bay will only get better in the next few weeks. The fish never turned on until that incoming started burning in. All fish were caught on a limtreuse bass assasin and a chartreuse/ glo sand eel jr and a 1/4 oz jig. They didnt want any topwaters today! Wind was SE @8 in the AM and it was SE @13 when we left. Water clarity was excellent

11/22/08 Galveston Channel

The tide wasnt very good today and consequently the flounder did not want to eat plastics or gulps.  If you didnt have finger mullet today you just didnt do very well.  We ended up with 6 flounder up to 4 pounds.  We still havent seen the peak of  the flounder  run which will start with next weeks new moon and strong tides.  Get ready it is about to be unbelieveable fishing for flatfish
